60 Second Interview with Jeweller Dinah Gough
I recently came across Dinah Gough’s jewellery. It’s fair to say that I simply adore it. The sea horse and star fish necklaces are so beautiful. These images don’t do them justice, as these pieces are usually on gold or silver chains not leather. I love how life like and organic they look due to the intricate detailing in her work. The bee/seahorse/starfish necklaces all have matching ear rings. They are just so incredibly sweet and a perfect gift as they come in silver and platinum gold. I think the bee necklace is my favourite as it is such a wearable piece that you could easily wear from day to night. Why would you ever take that little bee off!? Dinah designs with platinum gold and silver with precious and semi precious stones. She creates pieces on a private commission basis as well as collections for retailers and luxury houses. Read below for my 60 second interview with Dinah.
Avril: When did you realise that you wanted to make jewellery?
Dinah: Years ago I attended a night course doing jewellery being taught by a wonderful jeweller who worked at Cartier. With his assistance I was accepted onto a full time 4 year course at Sir John Cass College which is now Guildhall & City University.
A: What inspires you and how do you keep motivated?
D: I get my inspiration from nature and also from architecture. I often work with private clients and my motivation comes from trying to make a piece of jewellery which they will always want to wear.
A: How long does it take to make each piece?
D: Pieces can take hours or weeks to make dependant on the complexity.
A: Do you wear your own work?
D: Yes I always wear my own jewellery.
