Justin Townes Earle- Whelans Dublin
On Wed night I met my old pal Conor Doyle and we went to see the one and only Mr. Justin Townes Earle. I’ve enjoyed being back in Dublin and this trip home has really high lighted how much I love this city. As usual, Conor and I had some passionate music talk over a cheese platter and a bottle of wine at Olesya on Wicklow St. We then mosied on up the road to Whelans for our date with JTE! It was a fantastic set, he is mesmerizing and I’d just love to learn to play guitar like him. He has such a distinctive, authoritative strum, he really owns it when he plays. He played on his own, as his band had flown back to the States that morning. I’ve seen him play three times now and all you really need is his voice and a guitar. At one point during the show, there were some idiots in the audience making noise.. I really enjoyed how cranky he got, at one point telling them to ‘Fuck off!’.. Overall it was an amazing gig and I highly recommend seeing this man performing live. X

Rag and Bone Fall/Winter 2012
I was delighted Kate Moss recently featured in Rag and Bones 2012 campaign. For an American company branching out to the UK, using Kate was a clever and obvious choice. Ye got to love Kate Moss.. she’s a total keeper, Jamie Hince knows that. The Queen of British fashion and the epitome of cool. These little moments were captured in kentish town North London by Craig McDean. It’s all very natural and relaxed with minimal make up and kate Moss looking chilled and happy in pretty much her own sense of style. This is so similar to how she dresses in everyday life, such a perfect match. Craig did an excellent job at catching her off guard, which is surely not easy when you’re photographing one of the Worlds biggest super models.
I’m pretty sure I know this Road, as I used to work in a primary school nearby. There’s definitely a good energy in this area, the carnival feel of Camden town seeping through. There’s also a real sense of community and fashion, with an abundance of vintage stores and busy markets. I love this area, it’s got a real edge.

Vivienne Westwood A/W 2012-13
There’s something about the collection that makes me feel on edge or as the French say énervé, perhaps its the fear that something truly ugly could happen. Its an artistic story with a challenging aesthetic. Yes, the painfully skinny model looks like a bit of a mental case, but she looks like she has an interesting story to tell. This woman looks like she’s lived a little, she’s not a 14 year old model plucked from Alabama. I think this is the point right!? We are questioning beauty here! Of course they could of used a beautiful, bronzed, generic looking hotty, but how boring is that? It wouldn’t be Westwood. It wouldn’t suit the pieces or push the boundaries and it would just be like every other campaign.
I like the androgynous pinstripe suit, the brown brogues and the granny cardigans. I want that green bag! I adore anything check/Tartan, I’ve always loved Tartans celtic ways, how it looks and feels. There’s something sturdy, reliable and solid about it, yet it makes me feel all reminiscent of my punk days. Overall, the collection is old skool (it is inspired by a 17th century artist), its kitch.. old cushions & carpets and burnt orange? I’m really not a fan of that musty colour everywhere, but in fairness it’s truly Westwood, look at her hair for god’s sake. The woman herself is fabulous, she speaks out and stands up for what she believes in. Westwood is revolutionary and I honestly believe that nobody can wear Westwood like she can, but I’d definitely like to give it a go.
Body image has always been a heated topic of debate, particularly within the Fashion Industry. As an actor, the thought of getting completely naked on camera really scares me. I mean do I really want my exposed, wobbly, white bits documented for any old Tom, Dick or Harry to see!!? This is why I have so much respect for the Olympians who posed naked for GQ magazine. These shots of Volley ball player Zara Dampney and cyclist Victoria Pendleton are so magnificent and inspiring. They blatantly don’t have any wobbly bits and are at their fitness peak, so why wouldn’t they want to show off how beautiful they look in the nude!?.. I guess I think its rather terrifying getting naked on camera, no matter how good or bad you think/feel you look. It was interesting to see a mens magazine such as GQ posting images of women with such impressive and athletic physiques. If you view previous images, you’ll see the athletic, female physique isn’t usually what they go for.
For centuries the female form has been heavily scrutinized, with women today getting slack for being too skinny or too fat. I mean you can’t feckin win lads! Rihanna recently talking about losing weight said:
”It’s actually pretty annoying, because now I don’t have a butt, and I have no boobs. I already had no boobs to start with. So annoying! and I’m eating everything!”(sodabread.com)
There was then a poll to see if people thought Rihanna was too fat, too skinny or just right. I personally think it’s great and healthy to see a bit of body type variety. People will always have a concept of what they believe beauty to be and more often than not, the average person will have a few body hang ups. It was refreshing to see that super fit Olympian Zara Dampney has them too! Although, her feet look great to me!

Moonrise Kingdom
So I went to see Wes Anderson’s ‘Moonrise Kingdom’ the other day and it completely knocked my socks right off. Its not easy to put into words how much I adored it! but sure I’ll give it a go.
‘Moonrise Kingdom’ is a quirky coming of age love story about two 12 year olds, who run away together. It’s such an uplifting movie, you leave the cinema feeling cheerfully enlightened and inspired. Every single shot was so precise, colourful and artistic, I enjoyed every moment of it. I loved the stylized 60′s setting and the trademark whacky ‘dysfunctional’ characters, so Andersonian!.. Its the tiny details that really add to it and the costume design is unreal in every single shot. Its consistently exceptional, especially at the school plays depiction of Noah’s Ark (the kids costumes just cracked me up!) The humour and oddness are reminicent of The Royal Tenenbaums (which I also loved), yet it’s slightly more optimistic. The cast is exceptionally good of course, with Tilda Swinton playing ‘Social Services’ loved the fact she didn’t have a real name! Not to be completely dramatic.. but I personally think its a work of art!… it went straight into my top favourite films ever. I highly recommend you go see it straight away. You’re in for a visual treat. x
Versace Rocks!
I know it’s summer time but it’s pouring down from the heavens here in Gloucestershire. I’m tucked away filming for the next week, in the most beautiful country farm house. We have our own chef and driver on set, which is really nice… I could definitely get used to this!

A Royal Salute
I was in lovely Ireland for the Jubilee weekend and was very delighted to have some time off. I celebrated my school friend, Aoife Redmond and Anthony Chow’s wedding and spent some quality time with family and friends.
When I left London, Kings Road was more British than I’ve ever seen it before, Union Jacks swaying jubilantly above our heads. As an Irish gal It did leave me feeling a little unsure of how I should celebrate..!
The Kate Moss pervert in me thought the above image from Decembers 2001 Vogue is the perfect British symbol of salute!
A huge congrats to Queen Elizabeth on 60 years in the job!
