Justin Townes Earle- Whelans Dublin
On Wed night I met my old pal Conor Doyle and we went to see the one and only Mr. Justin Townes Earle. I’ve enjoyed being back in Dublin and this trip home has really high lighted how much I love this city. As usual, Conor and I had some passionate music talk over a cheese platter and a bottle of wine at Olesya on Wicklow St. We then mosied on up the road to Whelans for our date with JTE! It was a fantastic set, he is mesmerizing and I’d just love to learn to play guitar like him. He has such a distinctive, authoritative strum, he really owns it when he plays. He played on his own, as his band had flown back to the States that morning. I’ve seen him play three times now and all you really need is his voice and a guitar. At one point during the show, there were some idiots in the audience making noise.. I really enjoyed how cranky he got, at one point telling them to ‘Fuck off!’.. Overall it was an amazing gig and I highly recommend seeing this man performing live. X
The Polyamorous Affair
Stumbled across this tune today.. “Whoever Controls the Groove” which is on The Polyamorous Affairs new album, The Future Isn’t What It Used to Be.
I like it.. Tis groovy! x
Foreign Slippers
Foreign Slippers recently supported Irish band Duke Special at the Union Chapel Islington. I really fell in love with Swedish songstress ‘Gabi Frodens’ voice, its so beautifully haunting and emotive and she really has that vibrato down to a tee. The songs are well crafted and catchy, she’s one of those ridiculously talented individuals you’d usually love to hate-(she also did the art work for her album!) However, I found it hard not to warm to her, as she jokingly plugged her album saying if we all bought it, it would enable her to eat until September… at least!
As cheesy as it sounds, this reminded me that there are so many talented artists out there struggling, yet giving it their all. They continue to make music even when all the odds seem stacked against them. I guess we should always be very grateful for that. I recommend you check Foreign slippers out and be sure to buy their album. Not because Gabi needs to eat but because it’s really very, very good!

Shannon: Music Video – Behind the Scenes
Last week my friend, Eoin C Macken of Blank Canvas Pictures was directing a music video in Slane Castle for the stunning Shannon O’Connor who is soon to release her debut single. Check out her website Shannon Official. I decided to head along to say ‘hi’ and brought my camera just incase there were any photo opportunities. These are my behind the scenes shots from the music video. It was shot in Slane Castle (oh the memories of those teenage years spent at concerts on the hill). It was a lot different this time, not just because we were in the castle – the basement to be precise. Who knew that Slane Castle used to have a niteclub in the basement?! This is where the video was shot – the niteclub is no longer going but the venue is still set up as such. It provided a great backdrop for Shannon’s video. It was a great day with a lovely cast and crew. Shannon has such a fantastic look and I love her debut single (even after listening to it on repeat for the day!) - I have no doubt that she will go far in the music world.
