Eric

I recently came across the work of Carl Erickson (Eric).  My dad gave me David Downton’s book ‘Masters of Fashion Illustration’ as a Christmas gift – what a fabulous book, it is so inspiring.  Recently I have become increasingly interested in the world of fashion illustration and the craft of it – so much so that I intend to take a course in it over the coming weeks.  Over the past number of years fashion illustration has become popular again and too right I say.  Looking through Downton’s book you can’t help but be in awe of the talent of these illustrators.  Eric is one illustrator in particular who caught my eye – he is probably best known for his work with Vogue & Coty cosmetics.  In the 1930s a new drawing line emerged and Eric was at the forefront of this.  In his book Downton also gives an insight into each of the illustrators featured and their career paths – the book is a lovely combination of both information and imagery.  David Downton also features his own illustrations towards the end which are incredible.  Masters of Fashion Illustration is a coffee table book to rival the best!
