The Old Cinema

Good evening, I hope all you Londoners are at home safe and sound. It’s crazy the amount of rioting going on in London at the moment. Hopefully it’ll all be alright though.. David Cameron is on his way back from his holidays.. Goodness shall prevail, please god. It’s actually rather scary…

During the week I went to The Old Cinema in Chiswick, it dates back to 1890. I really love it there. Vintage anything is terribly in vogue these days, but this three storey shop really is worth a visit.. you feel like you have gone back in time. Its like a funky little museum full of weird and wonderful memorabilia, antique furniture, collectors items, vintage jewelry.. brass piglets!! etc. From retro americana to French decadence.. It’s a great place to have a wee mooch around in. It is frequented by interior designers, stylists and art directors….You can check out The Old Cinema and buy online here

Anyway, stay home and stay safe peeps. I’m hoping and praying that peace will be restored… pure madness..

Nancy Meyers Film Sets

What do the films Something’s Gotta Give, It’s Complicated, & The Holiday all have in common?  ….They are all Written & Directed by Nancy Meyers and they all have the most amazing film sets!

The interiors in Meyer’s films are incredible and almost become the star attraction – that and the odd A Lister (I love Diane Keaton & Meryl Streep!)  Not only is Meyer a great film maker but she knows how to make one look great too – she has the added touch of conveying warmth in a house through the characters, who bring life and love to the setting and make it appear like a home with real people and families.  I’m a big fan of this genre of film, but not everyone is, so if you are not a fan however you love interiors then you have to see these films – they are so worth it!

It’s Complicated

From Meryl Streep’s homely house, fabulous bakery and kitchen garden in “It’s Complicated” to Diane Keaton’s Hampton’s abode in “Something’s Gotta Give”.  My ideal future home is a mix of these houses - I absolutely love the house in Something’s Gotta Give but the house in It’s Complicated has such warmth - maybe a combination of the two.  I also dream of a kitchen garden…some day!

Romantic Style

I first stumbled across this book while darting through the book section in Selfridges. This was supposed to be a shortcut as I was not out on a shopping trip but in a rush to meet a friend for coffee, and I honestly believed I could make it through without being distracted by all the lovely things this store has to offer a magpie such as myself! I was doing quite well until this book jumped out at me like a beaming light! I knew as soon as I looked through it that I had to have it.

Every page in this book is so pretty and inspirational. If like me, you perk up at the idea of going to a car boot sale or a vintage fair then this book is for you. It is full of old mixed china, painted furniture, pretty florals and soft colours. The looks in this book are achievable without having to spend a fortune. I have since been inspired to take a paintbrush to an old mirror, sew some cushion covers in some beautiful 1940′s vintage fabrics I found at a local antiques fair in Alexandra Palace, and hang some of my charity shop found china plates in a pretty arrangement over the fireplace in my kitchen. The lady responsible for the styling in this book is the very talented Selina Lake. I cannot recommend this book enough if shabby chic interiors appeal to you. Definitely a gift worth treating yourself to!
